Ayman Alshhadat (above) had to don some unfamiliar items of clothing on his arrival in the Valley – a toque and scarf – as he experiences his first winter here. These are accessories he had little use for in his native Syria. The Current previously reported how Alshhadat, his wife and three young children arrived in Canada on Valentines Day to be greeted by their Canadian sponsors Madawaska Valley Friends of New Canadians (MVFONC). Readers have asked us how the family is settling in and how they can help.
MVFONC is happy to report that the Alshhadat family moves into their temporary Valley home today, thanks to the generosity of local residents who stepped up to offer an empty property. The family will live there until they move into the house they have leased in Barry’s Bay.
