Romantic heroism in the Valley

As Valentines Day approaches, it’s time for the story of Lovers’ Rock in the Madawaska Valley.

“It all started when I took my camera and Honda ATV side by side up Tom’s Lookout,” said Combermere resident, Chad Beckwith-Smith. “On the top of the lookout is a Rock that I have named Lovers’ Rock after meeting a young married couple celebrating their first anniversary up there.”

Their celebration developed a dramatic turn when Beckwith-Smith photographed them posing on what appears to be the edge of a cliff where one “pulls” the other to safety.

Beckwith-Smith was taken with the photographic possibilities and has since introduced numerous couples to Lovers’ Rock, telling them it’s the Valley’s test of true love.
