Tips for a safe holiday from MV Fire Chief

Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade offers these fire safety tips to ensure that everyone in your household enjoys a safe Christmas:

  • If you have a real tree in your home, when you bring it to the house cut a little off the bottom to make it fresh.
  • Water your real Christmas tree every day.
  • Keep firewood and Christmas trees a safe distance from fire places and wood burning appliances.
  • Make sure that all extension cords, Christmas lights, and timers are CSA approved.
  • Don’t overload plug-ins; if they are overloaded they may get hot and catch on fire.
  • If you are planning on partying, do not cook.

Should someone have any questions in regards to fire safety contact your local fire service. They are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
