Legion accepting donations for Red Cross to aid Ukraine

Comrade Joan Boulding of the Royal Canadian Legion Barry’s Bay Branch 406 came up with the idea that the Legion could raise money for the Red Cross in support of the Ukraine. The Canadian Government will match donations dollar for dollar up to a total of $30 million. Donations will be accepted at the Barry’s Bay Legion until end of business on Wednesday Mar.16. As of Mar.11 donations already total more than $750.

On Wednesday Mar.9 the Opeongo Seniors donated $500 towards the cause. Shown above are Connie Schwieg (centre) of Opeongo Seniors presenting a cheque to Comrade Boulding (left) and to Branch 406 President Heather Poliquin (right). Photo submitted.

Poliquin said, “The Legion thanks the Opeongo Seniors’ Centre for their generous donation and their continued support of Legion activities.”
