Three pumpers 21 firefighters respond to Pinecrest Ave. fire in Barry’s Bay

On Thursday, Feb.2 the Madawaska Valley Fire Department was despatched to a structure fire in the 100 block of Pinecrest Avenue in Barry’s Bay. The call came at 5:34 pm and firefighters were on the scene in the Sandhill area of the village within five minutes to quickly contain the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters could see smoke coming from inside the building along with flames from the interior. The fire was in the walls and ceiling of the structure and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. Three pumpers, 21 fire fighters and rescue from both stations responded to the call.

The building, which was uninsured, sustained serious damage, estimated to be about $5,000. Both the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal were contacted in regards to the fire.
