Barry’s Bay shed fire sparks OPP investigation

Killaloe OPP is investigating a mischief to property incident involving an abandoned shed.

On February 2, 2023, shortly after 6:30 p.m., police responded to a mischief call at an abandoned shed on Pinecrest Avenue in the Township of Madawaska Valley. Unknown persons lit a bonfire inside the shed which had to be extinguished by members of the Madawaska Valley Fire Department. Family dispute in Madawaska Valley results in criminal charges

Police have charged one person with several criminal charges after responding to a family dispute call.

On February 1, 2023, just before 8 :00 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a family dispute call at a residence in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 38-year-old from Madawaska Valley Township with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Assault – three counts;
  • Utter threats – two counts; and,
  • Voyeurism.

The accused was released on conditions and will appear in court on March 8, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The name of the charged person will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.

Palmer resident charged with Impaired

Police have laid impaired charges on a driver.

On January 31, 2023, just after 8:00 p.m., the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a pick-up truck on Liedtke Road in the Township of Brudenell Lyndoch and Raglan.

As part of the investigation, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, 57-year-old Jacek PODSCIANSKI from Palmer Rapids was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle; and,
  • Operating a motor vehicle while having over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

The accused was released on conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 8, 2023, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The accused’s driver’s licence was seized and suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Police have laid criminal charges after conducting a traffic stop.

On January 31, 2023, just after 12:30 a.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Mountainview Road in the Township of Killaloe Hagarty and Richards.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged 42-year-old Jaclyn SHAFFER from Killaloe with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offence:

·        Possession for the purpose of trafficking – three counts.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in court on March 8, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe.

OPP seek information about Sunday morning robbery in Pembroke

The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a robbery that occurred at the corner of Pembroke Street East and Fraser Street in the City of Pembroke. 

On February 5, 2023 just before 9:00 a.m., a female was assaulted and had property stolen from her by an unknown person. The unknown person is described as a male wearing a black knee length parka with fur on the hood. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
