As of 12:00 a.m. on September 14, 2023 the Township of Madawaska Valley has reduced the Fire Ban to Level 2 (Yellow). This means that night burning only is allowed with a permit, the exceptions being camp fires or cooking fires no larger than 60 cm x 60 cm (2 feet x 2 feet). Madawaska Valley Fire Department personnel have been busy this week changing all fire risk signs to Yellow. (See photo above)
Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade told The Current that the person is still responsible for costs if the fire gets out of control. The fine for not have a permit is $615.00 while a permit costs just $10 and is valid for five days. They are available at the municipal office during business hours, or at the MacGwen gas station in Barry’s Bay and at CO Country Market in Combermere.
Quade reminds residents that burn barrels and burning house hold trash is prohibited.
The Fire Chief also expressed thanks to the people of Madawaska Valley Township for their co-operation with the wildfire season, saying it was really quiet for wildfires in the Township this year.
