Madawaska Valley and Sherwood JK to Grade 12 School invites local Grade 7 and 8 students and their families to enjoy a warm Waska Welcome. The students will be bussed from their participating schools to the community school in Barry’s Bay on Thursday, November 30 between 10:30 am and 1:15 pm. The students will receive a tour of all that the high school offers, as well as the chance to participate in free fun activities and enjoy a free lunch. Afterwards the incoming Grade 9 students will take home free MV swag.
Not just for incoming Grade 9 students — families are invited too!
It’s not just Grade 7 and 8 students that the school wants to welcome. At 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 30, local families interested in the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 school are invited to a free spaghetti dinner and tour. Visitors will see for themselves the facilities on offer and get answers to their questions about the programs available at the school. For example, the school offers a French Immersion classes starting at Grade 4.
Principal Jennifer Schooley said, “The spaghetti dinner is free – no charge to families. We want to invite new families to the school to learn more about what the school has to offer.”

Waska?!:- hmmm, this name inspires somewhat mixed feelings. Then again high schools are full of teenagers with unique ideas of their own. I certainly hope the eventual new name flies a bit better than the average lead balloon (wry smile!):- one has auditory hallucinations about “Shermad District Comprehensive School” or even “Sherwaska DCS” or even “Madwood DCS”:- one’s imagination runneth away with itself!
