Town Hall meeting re proposed REME Protocol

Cheryl Gallant, MP, (Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke) will be hosting a town hall meeting to discuss proposed federal methane emissions regulations for local farmers, the Reducing Enteric Methane Emissions from Beef Cattle (REME) Protocol.

In December the federal government announced an additional set of changes to reduce methane emissions from dairy and beef cattle. It is meant to provide incentives for producers to implement methods to reduce methane emissions from farm operations. These efforts may generate “offset credits” that could be sold states the Government of Canada website.

The rules are not yet carved in stone, so farmers have an opportunity to provide input before the regulations are finalized. Offsets for grain and other livestock will be discussed, as well as the reduction in the interest-free loan in the Advanced Payment Program from $350K to $100K.

MP Gallant is inviting farmers and interested constituents to a Town Hall meeting with Special Guest MP Lianne Rood, Shadow Minister for Federal Economic Development Agency for Eastern, Central and Southern Ontario:
