Public assistance sought in theft of mail investigation

Police are currently investigating a theft of mail incident.

On February 14, 2024, just before 6:30 p.m., police responded to a theft call for service on Linkage Lane, in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards. Several packages were reported stolen from a mailbox.

Police are asking anyone with information surrounding this crime to contact the Killaloe OPP Detachment at 613-757-2600 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS. You could receive a cash reward of up to $2000.

Domestic criminal charges laid due to Intimate Partner Violence incidents

Police have laid criminal domestic charges after responding recently to various Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) incidents.

On February 12, 2024, members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a breach of release conditions call for service in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards. As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 30-year-old from Killaloe with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • domestic breach of probation conditions, (two counts).

The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court later, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

On February 13, 2024, members of the Killaloe Detachment responded to an assault call for service in the Township of Bonnechere Valley. As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 30-year-old from Bonnechere Valley with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • domestic assault, and;
  • forcible confinement.

The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court later, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

On February 16, 2024, members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault call for service at a residence in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards. As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged a 30-year-old from Brockville with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • domestic assault with a weapon, and;
  • domestic threats to cause bodily harm or death, (two counts).

The accused was held pending a bail court hearing. The name of the accused person will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.

Snowmobiler charged with impaired

Police have laid an impaired charge on the operator of a snowmobile after responding to a police assistance call.

On February 17, 2024, just before 9:00 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a police assistance call for service on 60 Highway near Primrose Lane in the Township of North Algona Wilberforce.

As part of the investigation, 46-year-old Cory HITCHIN of North Algona Wilberforce Township was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

·      failure or refusal to comply with breath demand.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 19, 2024, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

Driver charged following collision

The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver following a traffic collision. 

On February 16, 2024, around 7:30 p.m., OPP received a call for a vehicle in the ditch on Forest Lea Road in Laurentian Valley Township. The vehicle was located and the driver and lone occupant was not injured. While investigating the incident the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

Brett HAMILTON, 32 years old, of Orleans was charged with impaired operation as well as failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on March 18, 2024.
