The very full program of March Break activities at Madawaska Valley Public Library was sold out, but life at the Library didn’t end with March Break. In fact, it looks like a whole new beginning according to CEO Natalie Barrington who recently gave The Current an update on plans for Spring at the Library.
Two “pop-up” events this week
On Tuesday, Mar.19th between 10am and 2pm Service Canada will be at MV Public Library. They can help you with employment insurance, CPP/OAS, Guaranteed Income Supplement, SINs, and Passports. At last count, a few appointment times were still available. Please call the library 613-756-2000 to set up an appointment. Walk-ins will be seen as time allows.
On Thursday, Mar.21 from 1pm to 3pm Algonquin College’s Community Employment Services will be at the library to help anyone looking for a job, to upgrade skills, revise their resume, etc. Appointments can be made through the centre by email to ces@algonquincollege.com or by telephone 613-628-1700. They will be back for TWO pop ups in April – 4th and 18th.
Easter Egg Family Fun Hunt
On Saturday, Mar.30 there will be 25 photos of Easter Eggs hidden around Barry’s Bay. Find ONE photo per family and bring it back to the library for a goodie bag provided courtesy of Madawaska Valley Township.
Author talk — 1894: The Deeper Story of Moose Factory’s Great Flood
Also on Saturday, March 30 at 1:30pm at the Barry’s Bay Legion: Author Jean Pierre Chabot will speak about his recent book 1894: The Deeper Story of Moose Factory’s Great Flood. The ice-jam induced flood, flooded HBC’s fur trade post on the island. This will be an informative historical review of Moose Factory, which was an Ontario settlement for 350 years. Clubs and regular events
Craft and Chat for adults happens on Friday, March 22nd at 10:30am. You can create an Easter sock bunny decoration; please bring your own sock if you want to do a fun colour or pattern. If you prefer, bring your own craft and join in the social time. Register with by email to mvpl.programs@gmail.com or call the library at 613-756-2000.
Walking Group meets Fridays at 1pm. After strolling around town, you can warm up with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at the Library.
Lego Club takes place on Saturday, Mar.23 at 11am. Little builders and friends can challenge their skills, play games, and more.
Trivia fans – save the date
Friday, May 3: The Library’s very popular Trivia Night returns at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre. Doors open at 6:30pm, the questions begin at 7pm. Teams of up to six people can enter for just $75 and proceeds support MV Library.
