OPP Killaloe Detachment – week of April 15-22

During the week of April 15 – April 22, 2019 there were 119 calls for service for the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), including the Whitney Detachment.

  • There were twenty-one motor vehicle collisions, fourteen were animal related.
  • There were two domestic disputes, one domestic is under investigation pending criminal charges.

 

Assault, Public Mischief Charge

On Friday April 19, 2019 at approximately 8: 00 a.m. members of the Killaloe OPP detachment responded to a disturbance at a residence on Majihgan Inamo.  As a result of police investigation, 59 year old Anthony AMIKONS of Pikwakanagan was arrested and charged with Assault Police and Public Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe.

 

Breach of Recognizance Conditions

On Wednesday April 17, 2019 at approximately 9: 30 a.m. members of the Killaloe OPP conducted an investigation into allegations of breaches of court imposed release conditions. As a result of police investigation, a 16 year old male youth from Pikwakanagan was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance Conditions, x 2 contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held pending a bail court hearing, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The youth cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

Suspended Driving Charge

On Sunday April 21, 2019 at approximately 8:35 p.m. Killaloe OPP conducted a traffic stop on a passenger car on Highway 523, South Algonquin Township. The 59 year old driver Lawrence NEALE of Bancroft was charged with Suspended Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a summons to appear in court.

 

Stunt Drive Charge

On Monday April 22, 2019 at approximately 8:20 p.m. Killaloe OPP conducted a traffic stop on a passenger car for speeding on Highway 60, Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township. As a result of police investigation 24 year old Patrick BOILEAU of Sudbury was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a summons to appear in court.  The licence was seized and the vehicle towed and impounded for seven days.

 

Easter Long Weekend Campaign Results, Killaloe OPP Detachment

  • 87 speeding charges
  • I Stunt Drive charge
  • 5 Seatbelt charges
  • 1 Distracted Driving charge
  • 9 Highway Traffic Act Driving charges
  • 1 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charge
  • 1 Criminal Code charge

Easter long weekend seatbelt campaign results – Upper Ottawa Valley

The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently wrapped up their Easter long weekend spring seat belt campaign which started on April 19 and concluded on April 22, 2018. Over the course of the campaign officers conducted targeted enforcement looking for motorists who were not obeying seatbelt laws. As a result Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers laid five seatbelt charges over the course of the long weekend.

Although seatbelt use was the main traffic focus of the weekend officers also conducted enforcement and education activities associated with negative driving behaviours including distracted driving, impaired driving and aggressive driving in order to reduce the amount of motor vehicle collisions, injuries and deaths on OPP patrolled highways. In addition to the seatbelt offences, officers laid one impaired driving by drug charge under the Criminal Code along with 48 speeding charges, four stunt driving charges, eight hazardous moving violations and three distracted driving charges under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) over the course of the four day campaign.
