Well-known Barry’s Bay business owner passes away

Eric Louis Strack      July 15, 1968 ~ January 10, 2020 (age 51)

The following obituary appears on the Heubner Funeral Homes website.

On January 10, 2020, after a courageous battle, Eric went to be with the Lord.

Eric was the loving husband of Kim (Wodtke) and devoted and proud daddy to Erika and Alison.  Beloved son of Ken and Doris Strack. Special brother and best friend to sister Lynn and brother-in-law Andrew Rumleskie.  Eric was also a precious uncle and God-father to Emily Rumleskie. Cherished son-in-law to Mike and Debbie Wodtke.

Eric established Strack-Works, his automotive repair shop where he met and touched a lot of amazing people who quickly became his friends.  Eric always took the time to chat, teach, explain or just lend a listening ear.

On October 13, 2019, Eric suffered a massive heart attack.  Thanks to paramedics and staff of SFMH he was quickly attended to and airlifted to the Ottawa Heart Institute where he underwent immediate surgery.  Despite the ups and downs of his illness, Eric was able to spend Christmas with his wife and daughters all while in ICU. This miracle was thanks to the strength from God and the expert care he received from ‘his team’ of doctors and medical support staff.

On December 29, 2019, Eric received word that a heart donation had been found for him.  He expressed a combination of joy and gratitude for this most precious gift which was his only option for a chance at life, along with sadness for another family who lost a loved one in order to make this possible.  On December 30, 2019 Eric went into surgery with the most perfect peace, which can only be attributed to God, with his precious wife at his side. Eric’s battle continued with complications adding up despite the extraordinary care team of doctors and nurses, all who came to know and love Eric during this courageous battle.  Eric’s spirit continued but his body was too broken and on January 10 he went peacefully to Heaven, surrounded by love and prayers of family.

During Eric’s time in ICU, he spoke of being able to feel his spirit being strengthened by all of the prayers being said for him.  He was so touched and grateful for the love and support shown to him and his family. Eric’s steadfast faith in God never wavered during this time.  Eric said of his ‘team’ which was doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, orderlies, etc. that it was the best possible and he trusted these dedicated professionals.

In lieu of flowers, Eric’s family would appreciate donations towards the Ottawa Heart Institute or a charity of your choice, and request that you would consider organ donations when possible.
