2020 Opeongo Heritage Cup cancelled

Opeongo Heritage Cup Commissioner Dave Shulist has today advised that this year’s Opeongo Heritage Cup has been cancelled in view of the recent government directives on health risks connected to large events and the necessity for social distancing, as well as information and recommendations from our local public health agencies and directors. His statement reads:

I regret to inform you that the Opeongo Heritage Cup event scheduled to take place March 27, 28 and 29, 2020 has been cancelled.  We hope you understand the necessity of this drastic measure as it has become a homecoming event and, although the Madawaska Valley is currently Covid-19 free, it would take only one person in the large group of visitors who normally travel home from all over Canada and the US to unknowingly bring the virus to our area. Myself, the Combermere Heritage Society, Killaloe Heritage Society, Zurakowski Park Committee and the Barry’s Bay & Area Minor Hockey Association who benefit from and are the workforce for the event,  sincerely appreciate your patronage, your understanding, and we all look forward to next year!
