Food Bank Radiothon is live on Dec.5

If you’re concerned about the high cost of groceries, spare a thought for the Madawaska Valley Food Bank as they prepare for the annual Radiothon on December 5 in Barry’s Bay. It’s their major end-of-year fundraising event with a goal of $20,000 that day – a sum that will bring them much closer to the hoped-for total of $45,000 for 2025.

Paul Thompson, MV Food Bank volunteer, told The Current that there is an open invitation for anyone to drop by the MooseFM Radiothon as the live, on-air event takes place at two Barry’s Bay locations on Dec.5:

  • 10am to 1pm at Yuill’s Your Independent Grocer
  • 2pm to 5pm at Metro

Here’s how you can help

MV Food Bank encourages anyone planning to make a donation to drop by and make their donation part of the Radiothon. Donations can also be made by e-transfer at mvfoodbank@gmail.com says Thompson. He adds that the Food Bank also encourages businesses and organizations to mount challenge campaigns for the Radiothon. That means it’s time now to gather your friends and colleagues so you can help raise awareness and contributions to MV Food Bank.

About MV Food Bank

The Food Bank serves an average of 105 families, comprising 235 individuals. Thompson points out that these numbers have more than doubled since pre-covid days. “Clients are interviewed each visit with the information recorded in our database. ID for each recipient in the household is on record.” Clients receive a prepacked box for their household size which includes non-perishables, meat, milk, fruit, vegetables, bread and eggs or cheese.

A note of thanks

On behalf of the MV Food Bank, Thompson says, “The food bank very much appreciates the strong support that our Valley community has shown time and time again and looks forward to their continued support as we continue to see need for help in our area.”
