Bite-sized News at Nov.18 2025

The next few days are packed with interesting events in the Valley. Here is a small selection to choose from:

Thursday, Nov.20

  • Madawaska Valley Gardening Club, at Opeongo Seniors Centre, 19 Stafford St., Barry’s Bay. The Club’s annual Potluck Dinner starts at 6pm, followed by Club elections, and a demonstration. Winter Decorations by Shawna Plotz, Bloom Wildly Florals, Eganville. Shawna designs beautiful and unique floral arrangements that reflect her artistic flair and passion for her crafts. A mom of two young boys, she balances her roles as business owner and mother. While you watch, Shawna will create three beautiful winter/Christmas decorations. These will be raffled at the end of her presentation, with proceeds going to the Madawaska Valley Food Bank.
  • Chess Club. Also starting at 6pm, the monthly meeting of chess players ages 7 and up takes place at Madawaska Valley Public Library, 19474 Opeongo Line, Barry’s Bay. All you need to participate in this friendly and competitive group is an interest in chess, but if you have a chess set please bring it along.

Friday, Nov.21

  • Adult Walking Group meets at 1pm at Madawaska Valley Public Library, 19474 Opeongo Line, Barry’s Bay for a sociable stroll around town. Walking poles available to borrow. Meet back at the Library for a warm-up drink and while there, enjoy the artwork on display from Madawaska Valley District School students who are the Library’s November Artists of the Month.

Saturday, Nov. 22

  • Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance (OVCATA) holds its Annual General Meeting at the Royal Canadian Legion, Cobden, starting at 10am. The AGM includes a catered lunch by Sour Jo’s Bakery and Dante’s Deli, and thought-provoking panel discussion on “Women in Cycling and Walking: Barriers and Opportunities.” Panelists include three women (Pat Dalphy of Arnprior, Jodie Primeau of Deep River, and Jen Adams of Ottawa) plus MPP Billy Denault. Please email info@ovcata.ca so organizers can ensure there is enough food.
  • Council of Canadians: Kitchissippi-Ottawa Valley Chapter holds an event starting at 11:15 am at Calvin United Church (Lower Hall), 276 Church Street, Pembroke. Weather permitting, the group will walk/ring bells while distributing leaflets in downtown Pembroke. A potluck lunch, singalong and discussion will take place at Calvin United Church from 12 noon. Sunday, Nov.23

  • Public Skating. Every Sunday (except statutory holidays) from 1:30pm to 3pm enjoy skating at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre, Barry’s Bay.
