Candidate Noel Fenech responds to The Current’s invitation

Editor’s Note: Noel Fenech responded to The Current’s request with the following statement about his candidacy for Councillor in Madawaska Valley:

My name is Emanuel Fenech, although most people know me as Noel, a nickname I received as a child because my birthday is so close to Christmas. I was born in Malta and raised in the GTA.

I met my wife, Ute, in 1983, and together we have raised three daughters and are proud grandparents to four grandchildren. For more than 40 years, we have enjoyed strong connections to this community. Ute’s parents owned the Combermere General Store, making this area a special part of our lives from the very beginning.

Now retired and living on the Madawaska River, we are proud to call this community home. I believe in listening to residents, giving back, and working together to build a strong, vibrant future for everyone.

I am not running simply to hold a seat on Council. I am running because I care deeply about this community. Now that I am retired and have the time to dedicate to public service, I want to use my experience, common sense, and commitment to help address local issues and make our community an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

I believe one of the most important issues facing our municipality over the next four years is recreation, wellness, and community infrastructure.

Having been connected to this community for more than 40 years and now calling the Madawaska River home, I understand how important our parks, trails, community facilities, and recreational programs are to our quality of life.

I believe recreation should be affordable, accessible, and available to everyone, from young families to seniors. These opportunities keep us healthy, active, and connected while strengthening the community spirit that makes this area such a special place to live.

As costs continue to rise, we must make smart, responsible investments that protect and improve the facilities we have while planning for future needs. By working with community organizations, neighboring municipalities, and other levels of government, we can expand opportunities, secure funding, and make the most of every taxpayer dollar.

My priorities are to:

  • Expand affordable recreation opportunities for residents of all ages.
  • Strengthen partnerships to enhance programs and services.
  • Secure funding to improve community facilities and infrastructure.
  • Support practical, sustainable investments that benefit our community now and in the future.

Together, we can build a healthier, more active, and better-connected community. I am asking for your support so we can invest in the programs, facilities, and opportunities that will strengthen our municipality and preserve the quality of life we value for generations to come.

I believe the most effective councils are built on respect, collaboration, and open communication. I will work closely with my fellow councilors, listen to different perspectives, and focus on finding practical solutions that benefit the entire community.

While we may not always agree on every issue, I believe we can achieve the best results by working together, treating each other with respect, and keeping the needs of residents at the center of every decision.

Respectfully Noel Fenech
