During the dates of January 2 to January 5, 2020 there were There were 44 calls for service for the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), including the Whitney Detachment.
- There were six motor vehicle collisions, four were animal related.
- There were four domestic disputes and no domestic disputes resulting in criminal code charges.
During the week of January 6 to January 12, 2020 there were 100 calls for service for the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), including the Whitney Detachment.
- There were fifteen motor vehicle collisions, of which ten were animal related.
- There were two domestic disputes which resulted in Criminal Code charges.
Domestic Assault Charges
On Thursday, January 9, 2020, at approximately 9:50 p.m., members of the Killaloe OPP Detachment responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in South Algonquin Township. As a result of police investigation, a 61-year-old from South Algonquin Township was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault, Forcible Confinement and Sexual Assault contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on an Undertaking, with a court date of Wednesday, February 12, at 9:30 a.m., Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
Domestic Assault, Assault with Weapons Charges
On Friday, January 10, 2020, at approximately 1:25 p.m., members of the Killaloe OPP Detachment investigated a domestic-related occurrence at a residence in Bonnechere Valley Township. As a result of police investigation, a 23-year-old from Bonnechere Valley Township was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault, Assault With A Weapon and Forcible Confinement, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on an Undertaking with a court date of Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 9:30 a.m., Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Impaired Charges
On Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at approximately 9:55 p.m., members of the Killaloe OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on a passenger car on Algonquin Road in Bonnechere Valley Township. As a result of police investigation, 55-year-old Martyn BAGGOTT of Bonnechere Valley Township was arrested and charged with Fail or Refuse To Comply With Breath Demand and Assault Peace Officer, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on an Appearance Notice, with a court date of Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 9:30 a.m., Ontario Court of Justice Killaloe. The accused’s licence was seized and suspended for 90 days.
Driving tips to avoid animal collisions
- Be aware of your surroundings. Keep your eyes on the road, and perform regular mirror checks often.
- Pay attention to road signage that may be posted alerting drivers to wildlife crossings.
- If you spot an animal on the road, slow down when approaching, and stop if it is safe to do so.
- Always remember, where there is one animal there may be another following.
