As the long weekend approaches, Madawaska Valley Fire Department reminds everyone that a Total Fire Ban is in place, along with a provincial Restricted Fire Zone. MV Fire Chief Corwin Quade says that so far this year 12 Total Fire Ban signs have been stolen in the township. He said, “The signs are there to inform the public. I would like to thank the members of the public who have noticed the signs that have been removed.” He adds, “If caught stealing a sign, the person or persons will be reported to the police as these signs belong to the municipality. Tampering with a fire rating sign could get the person a $305 ticket.”
The missing fire ban signs have been replaced throughout the municipality.
First responders wear PPE as precautionary measure

On May 9 at 9 a.m. the MV Fire Department and Renfrew County Paramedics responded to a carbon monoxide call on Drohan Street in Barry’s Bay. Passersby may have seen all the first responders at the location wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Quade advises that, as a precaution, first responders wear their PPE when making any call with close contact. This is not because there is a COVID-19 case at that address.
The people inside the home were assessed for carbon monoxide poisoning but refused any further medical treatment. The Fire Department was unable to detect any carbon monoxide in the home.
