Three face multiple charges following Renfrew robberies

On October 13, 2021 at approximately 12:20 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Renfrew Detachment responded to a robbery at a residence on Bonnechere Street North in the Town of Renfrew. The suspects assaulted the victim and stole drugs, a firearm, electronic devices, cash and personal items. The suspects then fled the scene. The victim received minor injuries as a result of the incident. The investigation indicated it was a targeted occurrence.

On October 18, 2021, members of the OPP East Region Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and the East Region Forensic Identification Services Unit (FIS) assisted the Renfrew OPP Crime Unit execute a Search Warrant at a residence in Horton Township. As a result, Jonathan LOGAN, 40 years old of Horton Township and Kachina SACKANEY, 28 years old of Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation were arrested and held for a bail hearing. The accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 25, 2021 for a bail hearing via video link.

On October 19, 2021 at approximately 11:55 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to another robbery at the same residence. The suspect fled on foot with cash and the victim was not injured.

Brady GAUVREAU, 24 years old of Arnprior was arrested at an address on Vimy Boulevard by members of the Renfrew Detachment, East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Highway Safety Division (HSD). A search warrant executed at the residence resulted in the seizure of three firearms.

GAUVREAU was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 27, 2021 for a bail hearing via video link.

As a result of an investigation, GAUVREAU, LOGAN and SACKANEY are charged with:

  • Breaking and entering – Criminal Code (CC) sec. 348(1)(b)
  • Robbery – (CC) sec. 344(1)(b)
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – (CC) sec. 354(1)(a)
  • Theft under $5000 – (CC) sec. 334(b)
  • Commit Robbery to steal a firearm – (CC) sec. 98.1
  • Disguise with Intent – (CC) sec. 351(2)
  • Forcible Confinement – (CC) sec. 279(2)
  • Assault with A Weapon – (CC) sec. 267(a)
  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm – (CC) sec. 264.1(1)(a)

Furthermore, LOGAN and SACKANEY are charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine – Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) sec. 4(1)

Additional charges for GAUVREAU include:

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – (CC) sec. 117.01(1) x 12
  • Fail to comply with probation order – (CC) sec. 733.1(1)
