MV to end development charges

At the Finance & Administration Committee meeting on Jan. 29th it was recommended that with effect from January 1st 2018 development charges be abolished. By-Laws previously passed by MV Township under provincial legislation enabled development charges to be applied to all land in the Township which receives municipal water and/or wastewater services. The current schedule of charges expires on March 18th. In order to continue the charges beyond that expiry date, a consultant’s report would be required. The Mayor said the cost of that report needs to be weighed against the funds received through such charges. After some discussion the Committee passed a motion to recommend to Council that the existing By-Law providing for such charges be repealed with effect from January 1st 2018.
