MV Township without CAO

Doug Robertson (pictured above right with Mayor Love) is no longer CAO for the Township of Madawaska Valley with effect from Wednesday Feb. 21. When questioned about this by The Current earlier today, a councillor refused to provide any further information and referred us to Mayor Kim Love. Both Love and Robertson have not yet responded to telephone messages left by The Current so we cannot provide details about the circumstances surrounding the split at this time. Nor do we know who will fill the role until a new CAO is found.

Robertson was at the helm of MV Township since his hiring on Aug. 9 2017 after the Township had conducted a nine-month search to fill the role. The previous CAO, Craig Kelley, gave notice of his resignation on Nov. 30 2016 with effect from Feb. 22 2017 when he became Director of Development and Property for the County of Renfrew.

Prior to his six months as CAO for Madawaska Valley Township, Robertson had a 25-year career in municipal government. His most recent post was as Executive Officer to the CAO in the City of Waterloo, where he provided direct policy development, project management and change management expertise to the CAO and Corporate Management Team.

The Current will publish further information as it becomes available.

Doug has a wealth of experience in municipal government. He is a professional, honest, a really good person. Based on what I hear he was probably obstructed from doing his job by staff and the councilors they have chosen to side with and support. Like many of our other staff members who have moved on in the last four years, it was likely more than he could endure. What a god-awful mess.
