The Little Brown Church on the Hill is catching up with the 21st century! The Friends of the Rockingham Church are excited to share the news of their new website at www.rockinghamchurch.org. Click HERE to visit the site.
At the site you’ll find directions to the church, information about the church’s history and the Friends, and see what’s coming at the annual Celebration, held every August. The church is a big attraction for artists and photographers—browse the gallery to see a selection of colourful paintings and photos, most by local artists. And on the Donate page, secure online donations can be made through Canada Helps.
History buffs will be pleased to see that Ron Brown is our guest speaker this year (August 12). Mr. Brown is a popular author of many books on little-known aspects of Ontario history, with particular interests in railroads and ghost towns. A few of his titles are The Train Doesn’t Stop Here Any More, Backroads of Ontario and Ontario’s Ghost Town Heritage. (I believe he thinks Rockingham may be one!) Find out more about Ron Brown through the Events link on our website.
The site is a work in progress, and we will be adding historical pictures, documents and art works over time. The Friends are very grateful to member Beth Kennedy for volunteering her time, skills and patience to help create an attractive, user-friendly site.
And if you are interested in local history, do you know about the Renfrew County Museums Network, a group of over 25 museums, heritage sites and historical organizations around Renfrew County? Link to the Network through our site or click HERE to go to www.renfrewcountymuseums.org to learn who they are and what treasures they have to offer.
What a big step into the modern world this is for a little 19th century pioneer church —Whew! Now where’s my fan…
