An exciting week starts July 16 2018 for our Communities in Bloom (CiB) Provincial 5 Bloom Award-winning township.

On Monday, our judges, Peter Fright, Faith Archer and Debbie Marshall, will tour the gardens and businesses who entered our CiB local contests, looking at their creative planters, vegetable gardens and flowers gardens. It is a rewarding experience for the judges. Not only do they get to tour the gardens, but also they learn good things from knowledgeable gardeners in the process. Entries are judged on the six categories that the township is evaluated on (for all that are applicable to that entry) such as:

  • Landscape
  • Environmental Awareness
  • Urban Forestry
  • Floral Display
  • Heritage Conservation
  • Tidiness

The awards presentation for the contest winners will be held at Valley Manor on Friday July 20 2018 at 5:00 p.m. For all those interested, and especially for those who entered our contests, please be sure to mark this date on your calendar and attend our presentation as well as enjoy a light sandwich buffet. The contest winners will have their gardens and comments displayed on our Facebook page. Click HERE to visit the Facebook page of Communities in Bloom – Township of Madawaska Valley.

Having achieved the maximum 5 Bloom Award in 2017, our township was invited to enter the National Edition – Communities in Bloom. The National judges, Lorna McIlroy from Grande Prairie, Alberta and Gaétan Deschênes from Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Québec, will be in our area on July 19, 20 and 21. CiB co-chairs Debbie Marshall and Elser Lee (Faith) Archer have planned an action-packed three days for them to tour throughout our area. These same National judges will be at our awards presentation on Friday.

We are honoured to have been invited to enter National Edition – CiB. This spotlights our area to all of Canada and the rest of the world. People travel specifically to CiB areas to see our outstanding township – this in turn boosts our economy and we would hope that some may even find this area welcoming enough to visit again, or even live and work here.

Thank you to all for making our township one of the most beautiful places to live.
