What happened?!

Disappointed, dismayed and concerned, at times even shocked at what I am reading on the internet and hearing about the goings-on in Madawaska Valley.  I have been following the MV elections because I care about MV and still believe that it has great potential to become a thriving corner of Renfrew County.

I no longer reside in MV, for personal reasons, but continue to spend a lot of time in the area.

Unfortunately there is a lot of selective memory loss pervasive through various articles and comments on the internet and even in chats with residents.  I am appalled by some of the so-called “facts” regarding a variety of issues, specifically The Railway Station.

Folks, there always are two sides to any issue.  Sometimes, for legal reasons, certain information cannot be released.  I have read too much speculative analysis that may unfortunately sway the less-informed during these crucial elections.  This is adding to an already negatively charged community that may have long-term implications as it moves forward.  I participated in many aspects of MV community life through volunteering at The Railway Station, the library, friendship club and artisans’ groups.  I worked closely with MV Township in all of these areas, attending many council and committee meetings.  I was, and continue to be, informed on many issues. I would not selectively choose to voice only that information that would suit my purpose.  There is enough of that south of the border!

I fear that self-centered interests are losing sight of what MV needs to move forward, and thus are attempting to influence voters.  This past council has endured unnecessary litigation at great cost to the taxpayer, finalized a strategic plan that needs to be implemented for the betterment of MV, and successfully worked to bring the administrative management back under the responsibility of the Chief Administrative Officer, where it rightly belongs.  This was done through the dogged determination of the leadership which managed to maintain a just and fair course in spite of obstacles.  Why has so little been said or written about the positive accomplishments of this council?

Please, do not take the word of a few who feel only they know the “truth”.   By getting as much information as possible on any issue, become better informed for then Madawaska Valley will be the overall winner.

Voters are responsible for becoming fully informed of issues before completing their ballots. When some candidates do not participate in opportunities to explain their positions i.e. community meetings, media interviews it becomes difficult for voters to be fully informed.
