The Madawaska Valley Horticultural Society held a well-attended Annual General Meeting followed by its annual gardening trivia night on January 17.
The trivia quiz was led by Baxter Topham-Pitt from Temperate Gardens, Eganville. He drafted and presented questions related to plants that were challenging, engaging and sometimes funny. “The Blooming Wildflowers” team achieved the highest score and each team member received a gorgeous succulent to take home. The winning team members were: Leslie Betts, Jeneene Brunton, Alexa Fretz, Eden Guidroz and Terry Newcombe.
The 2019 Executive was elected as follows:
- Jeneene Brunton, President
- Peter Dolan, Past President
- Eden Guidroz, 1st Vice-President
- Ritsuko Honda, 2nd Vice-President
- Connie Colton, Treasurer
- Lesley Betts, Secretary
Directors of the organization are: Sandy Kingsmith, Nola Leroux, Terry Newcombe, Julie Zurakowski, Katrina Boguski, Tarrah Fehr, Alexa Fretz, Maryjka Mychajlowycz and Colina Taylor.
Besides regular AGM business, constitutional amendments were approved as circulated and the resolution to adopt a secondary name was passed. The name, Madawaska Valley Horticultural Society, will be maintained for legal purposes; for example, in the club’s constitution. However, the organization will now also use its secondary name, Madawaska Valley Gardening Club, in an effort to modernize and attract participation from new members of all ages including, hopefully, younger people in the community.
