More than one hundred bingo players attended the Sherwood Public School Spring Bingo at the Barry’s Bay Legion on April 11 hoping to win some of the $1,200 cash prizes including a grand prize of $300. The turnout was greater than expected and the Sherwood Parent Council feels very grateful for the support shown by the community. The Parent Council said the school board’s budget is limited and proceeds from this yearly event help to purchase equipment, educational aids and school trips. These enrich learning and give the students opportunities. The Parent Council also said they feel the event brings the community together, providing a positive example for the students. They also received help from some students at Madawaska Valley District High School (MVDHS) and were pleased to facilitate this as part of the students’ required community hours.
A special feature of this year’s event was the Bake Sale organized by the Grade 7/8 students in Ms. Poff’s class. Bake Sale proceeds will be used for the biennial overnight trip this year for about 18 students.

The Sherwood Parent Council thanks the Royal Canadian Legion Barry’s Bay Branch 406 for its support and said they could not have done it without the help of Leah Kinghorn.
