Bancroft OPP warns of high water risk

As the water system rises in and around the Bancroft area, the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wish to remind the public of the dangers of the fast moving water in many areas. Solid banks and ground can give away without notice due to the eroding earth in and around the flooding areas. The Town of Bancroft has closed off areas in and around Riverside Park and Millennium Park and officers will be patrolling the areas and will remove and lay charges to those that are trespassing.

Please stay away from the fast moving water and flooding areas as remind those that are in the areas to obey the marked barriers, caution tape and signs.

Also due to the fast moving water, roads in many areas have given away and caused washouts which has closed roads. Please do not attempt to cross over these areas, or drive through the water as there is no way to tell what the conditions of the roadways are. The water may appear to be shallow, but there could large gaps which could cause a vehicle to get stuck or submerged.

If you locate a washout, and or damage to a roadway, please contact the Town, Township or Municipality that the roadway is located in.

If there is a case of an emergency contact Emergency Services by dialing 911.
