Young Valley talent in show

Young Valley musicians Serena and Dexter Sernoskie (above) have a very busy summer job – they are in this year’s Stone Fence Theatre cast of Up at Fred’s Allons-y which starts its season run this week in Rankin. The pair are well known in the Madawaska Valley from their performances at the annual Kashub Day Festival (click HERE for YouTube video) and from their regular lunchtime sessions at the Farmers’ Market in Barry’s Bay on Fridays – where The Current snapped the photo above. We chatted briefly with Serena and Dexter who were unfazed by the hard work they were putting into rehearsals. Their mother, Laurel-Ann Sernoskie, said she has joined the cast too. As in past Stone Fence productions, Chantal Elie-Sernoskie, directs the show. The Sernoskies are among many talented local people who, whether as cast or crew, contribute to real homegrown entertainment in the Ottawa Valley tradition.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this article identified Chantal Elie-Sernoskie as Dexter and Serena’s aunt. We apologize for any confusion the error may have caused.
