OPP dismayed at some drivers’ reaction to Pembroke roadworks

The Pembroke Detachment of the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists to obey the rules of the road and exercise patience as several roadways in the City of Pembroke undergo construction work. Reports of impatient drivers cutting others off, speeding and aggressive driver actions have been received in relation to construction zone work, road closures and detours.

Drivers are reminded of the importance of construction zone safety including reducing speed when entering construction zones and obeying all road closures. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution when approaching a construction zone and to obey all warning signs, people and/or devices that are directing traffic through the area. It is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) to disobey STOP or SLOW signs displayed by a traffic-control person. Lower speeds are often posted in construction zones to increase worker safety and to reflect increased road hazards such as construction vehicles, uneven or gravel surfaces and narrowed lanes.

Information on current road closures and detour routes in the City of Pembroke can be found on the City’s website. Click HERE to visit.
