Killaloe OPP news for the week of Jan.13-19

During the week of January 13 – January 19, 2020, there were 109 calls for service for the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), including the Whitney Detachment.

  • There were nineteen motor vehicle collisions, of which eight were animal related.
  • There were three domestic disputes, none of which resulted in Criminal Code charges.

Collisions

On Tuesday January 14, 2020, at approximately 6:20 a.m. Killaloe OPP responded to a three vehicle collision involving a commercial motor vehicle and two passenger cars on Highway 60 and Dunnes Road, South Algonquin Township. As a result of police investigation, the driver of the commercial motor vehicle, 55-year-old Yves AYOTTE of Ste Emelie De L Energie, Quebec was charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. Both drivers of the passenger cars were taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The driver of the commercial motor vehicle was uninjured. Both passenger cars were towed.

On Thursday January 16, 2020 at approximately 4: 00 p.m., Killaloe OPP responded to a two vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Pecoskie Drive, Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township. As a result of police investigation, 48-year-old Kerry HARTWIG of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township was charged with Fail To Yield From Private Drive, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a Provincial Offences Act notice. There were no reported injuries. No tow was required.

Impaired, Breach of Probation Charges

On Thursday January 16, 2020, at approximately 5:35 a.m. Killaloe OPP conducted a traffic stop on a passenger car on Highway 60, North Algona Wilberforce Township. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was used resulting in the driver being transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of police investigation, 35-year-old Shawn SUTHERLAND of Ottawa was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation, Over 80 and Breach of Probation, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was released on an Appearance Notice, with a court date of Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. Ontario Court of Justice Killaloe. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days, and the licence seized and suspended for 90 days.
