One year later suspicious death of Barry’s Bay man remains under investigation

The OPP has advised the Current that the death of Barry’s Bay resident Sylvester Glysinskie is still the subject of an open investigation. Glysinskie passed away on January 19, 2019 at the age of 79. A death is regarded as suspicious if it is unexpected and its circumstances or cause are medically or legally unexplained. Typically this occurs in the context of medical care, suicide or suspected criminal activity.

Madawaska Valley Food Bank open this Tuesday morning

Reminder from the Food Bank that the Food Bank does not deliver and we do not provide transportation. If you can offer a lift to someone unable to get to a food bank, please do. Neighbours Helping Neighbours. Next food bank session is Tuesday, Feb. 25.

 

National Cupcake Day

Celebrate National Cupcake Day at the Opeongo Seniors Centre on Tuesday, Feb. 25 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. All proceeds to SPCA Pembroke. Cats, cupcakes, what’s not to love?

 

Death Café in Combermere

Dawn Cruchet, grief counselor at Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care, will host a Death Café at Heartwood Restaurant in Combermere from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25.  You are invited to join her for coffee, tea and dessert, and the opportunity to discuss death and dying in a relaxed, open, respectful setting. There is no agenda and the lively conversation is discussion-based rather than a grief support group.

Note: Death Café is an international movement that began in the UK in 2011 and over 10,000 Death Cafes have been held in 69 countries.
