Changes to Valley events because of COVID-19

While there are no confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in Renfrew County at this time, healthcare teams are working to ensure you get the information you need to protect yourself and your family members. Valley Manor allowing essential visits only

St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation advises that as of March 15 all non-essential visits to Valley Manor have been suspended until further notice. Only people visiting residents who are very ill or requiring end-of-life care are permitted to enter the premises. Upon arrival, you will be asked further questions to determine if you may proceed with your visit.

 

Changes to community events

MV Township convened its Municipal Emergency Control Group on Friday Mar.13 at 3:30 p.m. and will continue to meet and monitor the situation as required. A Special Council meeting is scheduled for Mar.17 at 9:00 a.m. to update Council and staff. As of Mar.14 until Mar.17 and further notice is provided the following services are closed:

  • Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre (PJYCC) in Barry’s Bay
  • Combermere Community Centre
  • Barry’s Bay Railway Station

The Madawaska Valley Public Library Board held a special meeting on Sunday, Mar.15 and decided to close the Library to the public as of March 16, 2020 in an attempt to inhibit the spread of COVID-19. The situation will be reviewed on a regular basis in consultation with the municipal council. During this time fines will be suspended and staff will be working out ways to provide limited service. Details will follow.

Masses at St. Hedwig and St. Lawrence O’Toole Churches in Barry’s Bay will be held this weekend, but after Mar.15 weekend Masses will be suspended until further notice.

CANCELLED EVENTS:

Sat. Mar.14         Madawaska Valley Lions’ Club St. Patrick’s Day Dance at the Barry’s Bay Legion. Ticket holders may donate admission fees to the club or ask their seller for a refund.

Sun. Mar.15        St. Patrick’s Day Tea at St. Lawrence O’Toole in Barry’s Bay; Opeongo Readers’ Theatre podcast at Barry’s Bay Railway station; Barry’s Bay and Area Skating Club show at Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre. Raffle tickets on sale at Barry’s Bay Metro Sat. March 14 with raffle winner to be chosen at a date TBA.

CCHL hockey     All Pembroke Lumber Kings games suspended until further notice

Mar.16 week     All March Break activities at the PJYCC

Mar.16 week     All March Break activities at the Madawaska Valley Public Library will be rescheduled at a later date.

Tues/Thurs       Walk the Halls at the Madawaska Valley District High School – closed until schools reopen April 5.

Wed. Mar.18       Palmer Rapids & Area Lions Club Wednesday night Bingos in Combernere cancelled until April 1st

Thurs. Mar.19    Bingo at Barry’s Bay Legion (7pm) suspended until further notice. When they start up again the Jackpot will be in 57 numbers.  Cards have not been cancelled.

Sat. Mar.21          Weekend Masses at St. Lawrence O’Toole and St. Hedwig Churches in Barry’s Bay. (Weekday Masses will continue)

Mar. 27 to 29      Opeongo Heritage Cup.

Apr. 19                  Volunteer Appreciation Event to be re-scheduled
