Restrictions relaxed at the Madawaska Valley Public Library

Editor’s Note: Karen Filipkowski, CEO of Madawaska Valley Public Library, explains what the Province’s recent announcement of Phase 2 of re-opening means for library patrons. (Photo above: Facebook)

While we have many restrictions, we have lots on offer and are doing our best to get those actual books and DVDs into your hands. (Sorry, no browsing the library for books and materials – yet.)

Take-out service

In addition to offering downloadable ebooks and audiobooks we are offering our “Take-out” service.  You can request books or DVDS by:

  1. Searching the online catalogue at madawaskavalleylibrary.ca  and placing a reserve on your selected books / DVDs
  2. Email mvpl.programs@gmail.com and let us know the books or DVDs you wish to take out.
  3. Call 613-756-2000 to request a book or DVD.

Staff will be monitoring reserves and requests on the online catalogue and by phone and email. Your requested items will be pulled from the shelves, checked out to your account and packaging them. When your order is ready, staff will notify you. All you need to do is pick up your take-out order between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday when the Front Door to the library will be open.

Computer use begins again on June 22

We are happy to announce that we can now allow use of the public access computers. This service will be available as of June 22nd with some restrictions. To accommodate physical distancing the number of computers had to be reduced from 5 to 2. Given the reduced number of computers, 30 minute sessions must be booked ahead by appointment.  Priority will be given for personal business use, such as checking email and for online licensing and applications.

Interlibrary loans and book returns

  • Interlibrary loans can once again be requested. Not all libraries are participating in interlibrary loans so we may not be able to fill all requests but will do our best.
  • The Book Drop is open – you can now return any outstanding items. The book return is to the left of the front door.

Summer Reading Club-FB

Summer Reading Club

Good news Summer Reading Club members!  With uncertainty over what stage we will be at with the pandemic over the summer, TD Summer Reading Club made the decision to move towards an online platform for the 2020 season. They have an exciting lineup of author visits and interactive programs in a safe online environment. We encourage all children to participate. Madawaska Valley will be working in partnership with TD Summer Reading Club and will have lots of activities for children. We won’t be able to do in person sessions but our talented Summer Reading Club Coordinator Julia has lots of fun activities planned. She is working hard to provide activities for pickup in addition to the online presence. Check our Facebook page regularly for updates.

How to search the online catalogue

Visit the library website at http://madawaskavalleylibrary.ca/ Click on the Library Catalogue tab or Login tab. To login to your account use the last 1 – 4 digits of your account number found on your card. For example if your account number is P0001000008563 you need only put in 8563. If your account number is P0001000000063 you need only put in the 63. Your password is the last 4 digits of the phone number used when your account was set up.  The catalogue can be searched by author, title, keyword or subject. Use the dropdown menu in the search bar. When you have selected an item click on the “reserve” tab and it will be reserved for you. Staff will contact you to let you know when your order is ready for pickup.
