Mask facts

As of Tuesday, July 14 it is mandatory to wear a mask or face covering in certain enclosed (indoors) public spaces in the region as required by the Renfrew County & District Health Unit (RCDHU). These places include retail shops, offices, churches, libraries, medical centres. As defined by the directive, “Mask” means a cloth (non-medical) mask, medical mask or other face coverings, (e.g., bandana, a scarf or cloth), for filtering respiratory droplets that securely covers the nose, mouth, and chin and is in contact with the surrounding face without gapping. The RCDHU directive provides exemptions from wearing masks although no medical documentation is required for a medical exemption from wearing a mask/face covering.

Note: Masks/face coverings should not replace physical distancing.

Be sure to bring a mask with you if you travel within the province, and check the area you are travelling to for mandatory masks/face coverings orders or by-laws. For more information, please see the RCDHU website.

Can you sew for SFMH?

On the subject of masks, St. Francis Memorial Hospital needs larger sized sewn face masks. For more information, please contact Christine at (613) 585-0518. Arrangements can be made to collect or masks can be dropped off at SFMH.

Message from the Station Keepers MV

Although Madawaska Valley Township has decided to open the Barry’s Bay Railway Station, the Station Keepers MV producer advises there will be no Opeongo Line shows with live audiences such as The Opeongo Readers Theatre or The Local. Meanwhile, the Opeongo Line producer will continue to produce a variety of podcast shows using ‘limited-participant formats’ out-of-doors as frequently as possible throughout the summer and fall.  He will also continue producing  home and field ‘studio’ shows where there is no live audience and only one or two participants. Those shows are also not dependent on the weather so he expects to continue producing The Opeongo Line for much longer than the Covid-19 pandemic lasts. “Lilies of the Valley,” an Opeongo Podcast was posted recently and contains the oral histories of Rose Burchat Chapeskie, Evelyn Hildebrandt Villeneuve and Bernice O’Grady Billings.  Anyone interested in listening to that show can simply press the following hyperlink:  https://podtail.com/en/podcast/the-opeongo-line/
