The global pandemic has forced most events to go virtual. Thankfully, the popular online auction for local healthcare didn’t require any change – and it’s back and bigger than ever. Running in conjunction with the Friends of St. Francis Virtual Charity Event, the online auction features items from around 50 local businesses and sponsors. Above: Rosanne Hoffman of Barry’s Bay is coordinating the popular online auction. Hot-ticket items include beautiful paintings by the local Wild Women artists, handmade quilts, luxurious outdoor furniture, gift cards to local businesses, a Garmin watch, and so much more. Items up for grabs include beautiful deck chairs provided by Barry’s Bay Home Hardware, a unique barbecue donated by Barry’s Bay Metro, an overnight stay including dinner and breakfast for two at beautiful Spectacle Lake Lodge, intricate artwork provided by local artists, golf items, handmade quilts, gift cards, and so much more.
All of the funds raised through the auction will go toward local healthcare, including the purchase of 20 evacusleds for St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Evacusleds are designed to reduce the risk of injury to patients and staff and are used during emergency evacuation situations. They are considered critical to ensure the safety of patients during times of extreme stress and uncertainty.
Volunteer Rosanne Hoffman has been coordinating the online auction since it first started three years ago. She said that St. Francis Memorial Hospital will always hold a special place for her in her heart.
She and her family have always received great care there, including (as only a couple of examples, and there are many more) some very quick critical thinking in the emergency department for her husband when he was in a serious accident, as well as an emergency visit followed by an air ambulance trip to CHEO for her son when he was only two years old.
“Between everyone at our local hospital always providing us with great care and compassion, plus feeling so fortunate to have access to a hospital given that we’re in a small rural community, I’m so grateful and want to do what I can to help,” she said.
So she’s happy to give her time and help out with this fundraiser.
