The Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke NDP has added its voices to the many expressing outrage over the recent racist attack on an elderly Pembroke woman at her home. Click HERE to read The Current’s report of the assault.
Police are still hunting for the teens responsible for verbal and physical assault on a local woman of Vietnamese origin that took
place August 20.
“Racism has no place in our communities,” said former candidate and NDP executive member Eileen Jones-Whyte (photo above). She says Party members were shocked by the assault of Pembroke resident, Thi Nga Doan. “Everyone has the right to live without fear of physical assault, of verbal abuse, and of racial discrimination. Everyone also has the right to security, especially in their own home.”
“Racism,” she said, “Stems from ignorance of the worst kind. These beliefs are not only dangerous because of the personal trauma they create, but because they are simplistic and spread easily. Our communities have the greatest potential when we recognize common challenges, and stop dividing according to our superficial differences.”
Ms. Jones-Whyte said New Democrats always “Stand with our communities to create a welcoming environment for all people. Like the rest of the Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke community, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family.”
