Virtual event exceeds Friends of St. Francis goal

St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation (SFVH Foundation) held its Virtual Charity Event at the Homestead at Wolf Ridge golf course in Killaloe on Friday September 4. Although teams did not golf this year, many generous sponsors and supporters participated in the online auction and contributed to offer a new Friends of St. Francis “Match It Program” that provided a double your money option to past team players. The fundraising goal for this year’s event was $25,000 to be used to purchase evacusleds. Shown above from left the team celebrates when the goal was met. SFVH Foundation Board Chair Karen Tierney opened the event with thanks to the organising committee of Doug Reeves, Rosanne Hoffman, Brian Norlock, Terry Recoskie and John Lepinski; Tierney also thanked hosts of the event Neil and Connie O’Reilly, Rose Shulist, and all the staff of Homestead at Wolf Ridge for their support which included selling 50/50 tickets on Mens and Ladies Day. Auction volunteer Rosanne Hoffman said that this being the third year for an online auction, she was overwhelmed by the support during this COVID-19 year – referring to new donors, more items. Hoffman said the prizes were more numerous and varied than previously. She admitted that her personal favourite was a print of a Kathy Haycock painting and matching jigsaw puzzle. In past years, each player would compete in a putting event, but this year one of three volunteer golfers putted on behalf of each donor.  Despite the drizzly weather, the willing candidates for the putting competition were ably assisted by longtime putting competition volunteers Maria Danielski (ball spotter) and Caroline Mallany (scorer). The volunteer putters were John Davidson (Gold Sponsor), Greg McLeod (COO St. Francis Memorial Hospital) and Terry Recoskie (Event Committee Member).

As the day wore on and the donations rolled in, SFVH Foundation Executive Director Erin Gienow’s smile got wider under her face mask. Finally, she was able to announce live on Facebook that the goal of $25,000 for the purchase of twenty evacusleds had been reached. A week later she told The Current, “Still a couple of last minute expenses to come in but we are reporting that just over $34,000 was raised through the virtual charity event and online auction.”
