Charge laid following head-on collision

Editor’s note: The following Dec.10 update from OPP Killaloe Detachment states a charge has been laid following a serious motor vehicle collision on Nov.27 on County Rd. 62 in Madawaska Valley. The northbound pick-up truck bore the logo of the Algonquin Forestry Authority but police have not named the driver. The driver of the crossover vehicle, a mother of two young children, suffered numerous injuries in the crash and underwent at least two surgeries in an Ottawa hospital before being transferred to the Barry’s Bay hospital.

Members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a serious two-vehicle head-on collision which sent both drivers to hospital, and have laid charges as a result of the investigation.

On November 27, 2020 shortly after 8:30 a.m., Killaloe officers were dispatched to the collision on Combermere Road, just south of the Madawaska Mountain ski hill, in Madawaska Valley Township.

The drivers were the only occupants of the pick-up truck and crossover vehicles. The female driver of the crossover vehicle was extricated from the wreckage by Madawaska Valley Township Firefighters. She and the male driver of the other vehicle were transported to hospital by ambulance. One driver was later transported by Ornge Air Ambulance to an Ottawa hospital for treatment.

Police have now charged the 56 year old driver of the pick-up truck from Palmer Rapids, with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued a summons to appear in court.
