Commencing Jan.14 all MV supermarket shoppers must wear masks

In light of the provincial and local COVID-19 case count and for the safety of their staff, customers and community, both supermarkets in Barry’s Bay will require mandatory masks or face coverings when the second provincial emergency comes into effect tomorrow, January 14, 2021.

Management at Barry’s Bay Metro and Yuill’s Valumart told The Current today that they will no longer permit any exceptions whatsoever to the rule. So if you are unable or unwilling to wear a mask or face covering, even if you have a medical exemption, someone else must do your shopping for you.

Derek Yuill of Valumart said he and staff expect customers to comply understanding this is a safety measure. He said that MV residents are fortunate that they can call upon The Delivery Guys to assist with shopping and deliveries. (Telephone Gavin at 613-602-5393)

Neil and Connie O’Reilly and Gerard O’Malley at Metro posted on social media that they are taking this step for everyone’s safety, saying, “We are all in this together.”

When you do shop for groceries, both supermarkets ask that you please continue to shop alone (one person per household) and to maintain physical distance from other customers.
