Bancroft OPP investigate snowmobile fatality

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on January 22, 2021 members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Hastings County Paramedics responded to a snowmobile collision on a trail near Weslemkoon Lake Road, east of Silva Lake in Tudor-Cashel Township. The driver of the snowmobile was transported by ambulance to hospital.

The driver of the snowmobile, 24 year old Jamie FERGUSON of Prince Edward County died as a result of his injuries.  Investigation into the collision is ongoing involving officers from the Bancroft OPP, as well as an OPP Technical Collision Investigator and OPP Reconstructionist.

Killaloe OPP investigate two weekend snowmobile collisions

Members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated two separate snowmobile collisions; both occurred on Saturday, January 23, 2021.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle snowmobile collision on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail E109, in the Township of Madawaska Valley. The lone operator was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries after striking a tree. No charges were laid.

A second single vehicle snowmobile collision occurred approximately 4:50 p.m., on the OFSC B106E trail in the Township of South Algonquin. The lone operator was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries after striking a tree. No charges were laid.

Police remind operators to obey speed limit signs and road trail signs, always riding within your own ability. Reduce speeds when driving at night and watch for fences, guide wires, trees, and other objects at may be difficult to spot.

Snowmobile safety remains an important component of the OPP’s public safety mandate and its Provincial Traffic Safety Program. Ride safely.

Killaloe OPP lay impaired charges following traffic complaint

On Sunday, January 24, 2021 at approximately 3: 20 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Opeongo Road, in the Township of Bonnechere Valley.

Police located the vehicle, and part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of this investigation, 26 year old Riley FOSTER of Barrie was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Impaired Operation
  • Over 80

The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle towed and impounded.
