Madawaska Valley Council held its regular monthly meeting on Feb.16. There were no agenda changes, declarations of interest, or delegations; here are a few highlights.
“We will see you when you get the Green Light to travel again.”
Mayor Kim Love reported on last month’s Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference, citing two Ministers’ sessions on supporting rural communities during COVID-19 and rural economic recovery post-pandemic. She told Council that the County of Renfrew had passed its 2021 budget and approved a levy increase of 2.5 percent after adjusting for growth. (The County’s weighted Current Value Assessment growth was 1.08 percent in 2020.) She had a clear message for “seasonal residents and visitors from regions who are still under a stay-at-home order, we miss you and understand that you are staying home to keep us all safe. We will see you when you get the Green Light to travel again.”
Paugh Lake Road work to be inspected
Council reviewed a letter from Perspective Engineering saying that “Rippling in the asphalt on the south 4.5km of Paugh Lake Road” was brought to their attention by Operations Manager Hilary Kutchkoskie last month and a site visit showed that “additional testing and investigation would be required to determine the cause of the issue and determine the recommended next steps and remediation.” Kutchkoskie said geotechnical consultants were retained and were expected to report in April 2021. By way of background, Perspective Engineering had sent MV a progress report dated Nov.26 2020 saying the remaining work to be done was line painting, granular sealing and tie in/cleanup. Draft Algonquin Park Forest 2021-2031 Forest Management Plan
Council asked CAO Suzanne Klatt to investigate and report on the location of the lands referred to in the Stage Four Notice of the Review of the draft Algonquin Park Forest 2021-2031 Forest Management Plan, as the information provided was unclear. The notice invites the public to “review and comment on the draft FMP; and contribute to the background information. Comments from the public will be considered in revisions to the draft FMP.”
Notice of the Review explains how to get involved: The Draft FMP and the Draft FMP summary will be available electronically on the Natural Resources Information Portal https://nrip.mnr.gov.on.ca/s/fmp-online and can be made available by contacting the Algonquin Forestry Authority, contact listed below, during normal office hours for a period of 60 days from March 12, 2021 to May 11, 2021. Comments on the draft FMP for the Algonquin Park Forest must be received by Joe Yaraskavitch of the planning team, by May 11, 2021. Click HERE to see the entire Notice and all contact details.

This picture was obviously taken earlier in the winter season judging by the lack of big snow piles
but my “inner polar bear” loves it just the same:- you can really enjoy Winter in Barry’s Bay!
It’s certainly not like Toronto where new-fallen snow soon mixes with dirt to make “snirt”
which slowly melts away to leave everything coated in “grunge”
and leading to a general social malady called the “winter blahs”:-
I absolutely do not miss Toronto!
