Additional positive cases at Miramichi Lodge

Four days after announcing a first case at Miramichi Lodge, on Feb.26 Administration at the County of Renfrew which operates Miramichi Lodge was notified that additional residents have tested positive for COVID-19. The result is from the testing of residents in response to the first positive case. As of this time, there are three positive residents; however only one is exhibiting symptoms and all are stable isolating in the Home’s isolation unit. All residents on Home Areas 2B and 3A are being isolated to their rooms for the time being as an added precaution.

Ninety-six percent of the residents received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine on February 8th and their second dose has been scheduled. While a single dose of vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce serious illness, Dr. Robert Cushman, RCDHU Medical Officer of Health has noted the phenomenon where the labs have been reporting low-level positive tests in asymptomatic residents who have received the vaccine.

There are no positive cases amongst staff.  Miramichi Lodge staff were vaccinated Feb. 25th and essential care givers were scheduled to receive their vaccine Feb. 27th and Feb. 28th.
