Toronto Star Covid article puts Barry’s Bay under national spotlight
On August 21 the Toronto Star published an article by Omar Mosleh entitled Why Barry’s Bay could be ‘the perfect incubation box’ — an example of a small town’s vulnerability to the Delta variant. The contents of Mosleh’s investigation have been widely discussed on social media and need not be repeated here. But his article notes that a vaccination information campaign by Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) includes not just pop-up vaccination clinics, but also COVID-19 Safety Messages posted on YouTube last week from local residents, Wilmer Matthews and Dr. Joe Cybulski, encouraging the unvaccinated local population to get the jab.
- Dr. Cybulski discusses the importance of receiving two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and how that is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the virus and variants of concern. LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf3RXwz4lb8
- In discussing the economic impact of COVID-19, Matthews says the pandemic has been difficult on all businesses, but this is especially true for small businesses. LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmojdTM_KaI&t=6s
Taste of the Valley goes online
County of Renfrew Economic Development, organizers of the Taste of the Valley Events, have announced the official launch of a new Taste of the Valley website. The new website, www.totv.ca, like the live events, is a celebration and promotion of all things grown, produced and crafted within Renfrew County. Although no live Taste of the Valley events have been taking place, the pandemic has not reduced the need or demand for local food and other products and our local producers and artisans are still hard at work. This summer, most farmers markets within Renfrew County are open and operating, and the new Taste of the Valley website will list these as well as provide direct links to approximately 150 individual local food producers and artisans. Vendors listed on the new website do have the opportunity to login to edit and update their listing and any Renfrew County food producers or artisans not listed can submit their details to create a listing.

Catch The Ace lottery Week #10 Winner

Congratulations to St Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation’s Week #10 Catch the Ace Lottery winners, Lorraine and Pat Flynn of Barry’s Bay. The Flynns were ecstatic to be chosen as the Foundation’s weekly winner on August 19 and were the lucky recipients of $960. They picked envelope #3 which revealed the Six of Hearts. The ticket was purchased at Barry’s Bay MacEwens. Lorraine and Pat plan to use their winnings to go away on a trip. The Foundation would also like to thank Lorraine for all of her help selling Catch the Ace Tickets at Lorraine’s Pharmasave in Barry’s Bay. The Weekly Prize for Week #11 is estimated at $975 and if the Ace of Spades is found, the Total Winnings will be around $16,533. All proceeds support the purchase of essential medical equipment for St Francis Memorial Hospital.
People believe the narrative they have been conditioned to believe, and no quantity of facts, data or rational arguments will change their minds. Arguing on twitter or Facebook is not going to change the mind of those you are arguing against. Our public education indoctrination centers have taught multiple generations to feel rather than think, believe rather than question, obey rather than challenge, and allow their minds to be molded by elitists to follow orders and do as they are told, no questions asked.
Regarding the article above I would suggest everyone who has followed this rhetoric from Joe and Wilmer to also click this link. and provide their commentary on the Front Page of the rag called the Toronto Star dated August 26th. 2021.
https://thestarepaper.pressreader.com/toronto-star/20210826
For those readers who wish to know what the first page headline stated here is its content:
“If an unvaccinated person catches it from someone who is vaccinated, boohoo, too bad. I have no empathy left for the willfully unvaccinated. Let them die. I honestly don’t care if they die from Covid, Not even a little bit. Unvaccinated patients do not deserve ICU beds. At this point, who cares. Stick the unvaccinated in a tent outside and tend to them when the staff has time.”
We, too, appreciate your very important comments. This health situation is still very fluid and we are fragile in our recovery. It takes conscientious effort on everyone’s part to bring this under control.
Btw, it would help if the medical people would actually explain the science behind Covid vaccines to allay people’s fears about them. Many people who have no trouble with being poked and medicated intravenously and getting blood tranfusions in a hospital seem to be irrationally resistant to vaccination so it would help for the doctors to explain the science behind the vaccines and discuss the risks relative to other medications and blood tranfusions.
Obviously the local health-care people need to market vaccination a bit more effectively:- threats of dire consequences do not work on some people and especially young folks and of course teens and pre-teens typically “live on another planet”. It would help if local stores would display friendly signs to remind people to get vaccinated with directions to the vaccination clinic. Perhaps the “Catch the Ace” people could withhold delivery of winning prizes until winners can prove they have been vaccinated:- a gentle pressure tactic! SFMH should run a daily walk-in vaccination clinic which would also be available to visitors driving through with big signs on Hwy 60 to encourage visitors to get vaccinated and give directions to the drop-in clinic.
Well said Dr. Cybulski and Wilmer Matthews about insisting that ALL people MUST get the Covid-19 vaccine!!
