OPP tell anglers know your limits – or else

In addition to the RIDE campaign conducted over the recent long weekend, Renfrew OPP officers also conducted patrols on the waterways. On September 4, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Renfrew OPP marine unit was patrolling on a lake in Greater Madawaska Township. The officers approached a vessel with three occupants that were fishing. The officers conducted an investigation and issued offence notices under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (FWCA) section 56 for transport fish unlawfully taken or possessed and the Ontario Fishery Regulations (OFR) section 16(a) for possessing more than sport fishing licence specified quota of fish. Under the OFR, officers are instructed to add $50 to the fine for each fish exceeding quota.

In this incident, approximately 32 fish were observed both on the boat and in the live well. Officers released the live fish and offered the remaining fish to anglers that weren’t in excess of their limits.
