Today, Sept.17, Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) in collaboration with Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College (SWC), is confirming a COVID-19 outbreak at SWC in Barry’s Bay. To date, four students have tested positive for novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19); three cases in addition to one reported on September 10, 2021. All contacts have been notified and there is no concern about risk to the public or other students and staff at this time.

RCDHU is working closely with SWC to ensure necessary measures continue to be in place. SWC has been cooperative and continues to work proactively to protect the community from the spread of COVID-19 by performing weekly rapid antigen tests on all faculty, staff, and students.

Thank you for posting this. Unfortunately SWC is not posting this information themselves on social media. This is not in accordance with their own commitments in the Covid policy they have listed on their website – “ SWC will publicly communicate any campus outbreaks of COVID-19 using several methods, including signage posted in all residences and campus buildings, on SWC’s website, and on all social media accounts. SWC will also notify students of any outbreaks in the surrounding community using these same methods.”

Although technically classified as an outbreak, the cases are confined to the original students (first case and contacts) who have remained in isolation since before the start of the school year and the Heath Unit determined that no further restrictions were necessary—it is not considered a *campus* outbreak. The faculty, staff, and students were all notified this afternoon. Also, the college and the health unit collaborated on the release.
