Motorcycle collision on Paugh Lake Road under investigation

On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Paugh Lake Road, near Basin Depot, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

The lone driver of the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Paugh Lake Road when they lost control, and veered- off into the ditch. The 50 year old driver from Combermere was transported to an area hospital by a passing motorist prior to police arrival, and was eventually airlifted to hospital by ORNGE with serious injuries.

The motorcycle was towed. The investigation continues.

Killaloe disturbance results in charges including assault

On Friday, October 1, 2021, at approximately 3:15 a.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance call on Angus Street, near Queen Street in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged 47 year old Andrew MCDONALD from Killaloe with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Utter Threat;
  • Assault Peace Officer – two counts;
  • Assault;
  • Cause Disturbance; and,
  • Breach of Probation.

The accused was held pending a bail court hearing, scheduled for Monday, October 4, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke.

Traffic complaint leads to drug and impaired charges

On Sunday, October 3, 2021 at approximately 11:10 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Murray Park Street, in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

Police located the vehicle, and as part of the investigation, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of this investigation, 25 year old Joshua ZILNEY from Madawaska Valley Township was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

  • Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle (CC);
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While Having Over 80 mgs of Alcohol per 100 ml of Blood (CC);
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited (CC); and,
  • Possession of Schedule l Substance (CDSA).

The accused was released on conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe.

Impaired charges for e-bike rider and motorist

On October 1, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., police received a call regarding a person consuming alcohol and then driving an electric bike at the Pembroke Waterfront area. Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded and conducted a traffic stop of a person driving a motor assisted bicycle in Riverside Park. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation Garry LANDRIE, age 67 of Laurentian Valley Township, is facing the following Criminal Code (CC) charge:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg

Later on October 1, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Pembroke Street West in the City of Pembroke. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.  

As a result of this investigation Rachel BIRD, age 26 of Kirkland, QC, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg

The accused persons had their drivers’ licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days. The first accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 2, 2021. The second accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on November 16, 2021.
