Killaloe Detachment

Break and Enter in Combermere under investigation: On Friday, October 22, 2021 at approximately 10:05 a.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an after-the-fact break and enter to a business on Farmer Road in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

Entry was gained through a side door sometime overnight. Numerous power tools were reported stolen. The Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) and the Community Street Crime Unit are assisting in this investigation.

Break and Enter to Barry’s Bay garage investigated: On Saturday, October 23, 2021 at approximately 3:25 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an after-the-fact break and enter to a garage on St. Francis Memorial Drive in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

A lock on the garage had been damaged, and once inside the suspect(s) attempted to steal an automobile. OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) attended to collect evidence from the scene.

Theft from pick-up truck: On Saturday, October 23, 2021, at approximately 3:10 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft from a pick-up truck in the Township of North Algona Wilberforce.

An orange Husqvarna chainsaw in a blue case was stolen from the bed of the pick-up truck.

Multiple Commercial Vehicle charges laid: On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety inspections in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

As a result of one particular safety inspection, a 51 year old CMV operator from Palmer Rapids has been charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violations, and the CMV taken out of service:

  • No Valid Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration;
  • Fail To Ensure Performance Standards Met;
  • Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle Without Required Inspection;
  • Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle With Major Defect; and,
  • Defective Braking System.

In another safety inspection, a 52 year old CMV operator from Midland was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violation:

  • Overweight Vehicle -Violate Permit.

Both CMV operators were issued a summons to appear in court.

All CMV operators and owners have a role to play in reducing the number of CMV-related collisions on our roads. The OPP’s aim is to enhance traffic safety through engagement, education and enforcement. Continuous hard work helps keep our roads safe, and reduces the number of collisions and fatalities on our roadways.


Traffic complaint leads to multiple charges: On Thursday, October 21, 2021, at approximately 4:45 a.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a passenger car on Letterkenny Road near Opeongo Road in the Township of Bonnechere Valley.

The driver of the passenger car was located, and as part of the investigation the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result the investigation, 40 year old Matthew SCHISON of Eganville was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle;
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While Having Over 80 mgs of Alcohol per 100 ml of Blood; and,
  • Fail To Comply With Undertaking Release Conditions.

The accused was released on conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded.

Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment

Threats at local schools result in caution, charges: On the morning of October 22, 2021, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after the principal of a local elementary school reported threats to the safety of a student and the school had been made on social media. Investigating officers identified a 14 year old youth from Laurentian Hills as being responsible for the threats. The youth was formally cautioned under the Youth Criminal and Justice Act (YCJA) and their parent was notified.

On the morning of October 22, 2021, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after the principal of a local high school reported threats to the safety of the school had been made on social media by a student. Responding officers took a youth into custody as a result of this investigation. Further investigation found that the youth was involved in a separate trespassing incident during the nighttime hours of October 20-21, 2021 at a residence in Pembroke. 

As a result a 15 year old from Pembroke was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Youth Criminal and Justice Act (YCJA) charges:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Trespassing at night
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Forcible entry
  • Fail to comply with sentence – three counts

The accused was released on conditions to a parent with a court date of November 25, 2021 at the Youth Division of the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke. 

The OPP take all public safety threats seriously. Police and school officials continue to work together to support students and staff to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
