Heritage Photo: Hunting excursion

Here’s a family on a hunting excursion near Chapleau, Ontario. The father, Martin Corrigan, is in the centre of the picture. From left to right are brothers Joe, Bill, Jack, and Martin Jr., all born in Hagarty Township, and all baptized at St. Mary’s Church (now Our Lady of the Angels) in Brudenell.

Martin Sr. (1834-1918) was born in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland, a son of Thomas Corrigan and Julia Delaney, who came to Canada in 1849.  Martin was married to Mary Jane McDonald.

Joe (1886-1939) married Mary Claire Sheedy and settled in Sioux Lookout. Bill (1876-1964) married Kate Curtin and settled near Cormac.  Jack (1869-1950) married Annie Wade, settling in Combermere and then Kearney.  Martin Jr. (1884-1968) married Florence Mayhew, living in Combermere and then Chapleau.

The year, 1884, appears at the bottom left corner and gives the impression that the picture was taken that year.  However, Martin Jr. was born that year and that might be why 1884 appears on the picture. Family members believe that the picture is most likely to have been taken in 1904.
