Emergency warming centre at Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre opened by MV

Due to the strong winds on Saturday, December 11, 2021, many areas within the Township of Madawaska Valley have lost power, with anticipated restored power scheduled for Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Hydro crews are busy accessing and repairing broken lines and poles. We understand that there are still hundreds without power, and the temperature is expected to drop to -5 overnight, according to Environment Canada.

In response, the Township has opened the downstairs lobby of the Paul J Yakabuski Community Centre from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. today (and will be extended if required), where residents can access water, power, and heat. Staff is onsite during this time. Residents will be asked to wear a mask and sign in.

We are concerned with getting this message out to people who need it, so please reach out to your friends or neighbours that are isolated and without power. Also, it is difficult for us to know who needs help unless they reach out to us. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Community Emergency Management Coordinators at the Municipal Office: 613-756-2747 Cory Quade (ext. 235) or Gwen Dombroski (ext. 212)
